Towards Smart Transportation System

Smart transportation system is a cross-field research topic that involves both the organizations manage large-scaled and individual end-users who enjoy these services. Recent advancement of machine learning-based algorithms has either enabled or improved wide range applications due to its strength in making accurate predictions for complex problems with minimal amount domain knowledge great ability generalization. These nice properties imply potential be explored building smart system. This paper studies how deep reinforcement learning (DRL) can used optimize operating policy modern bike sharing systems. As case study, authors demonstrate power DRL by showing policy-gradient-based approach rebalancing problem system, which simultaneously improve user experience reduce operational expense.
